St Kilda Festival is the Southern Hemisphere’s largest free music and community festival that covers the whole St Kilda precinct and attracts between 200,000 and 400,000 people each year. Beginning in 1980, it has grown from a single day to a 9-day fest culminating on “Festival Sunday” which is the main event.
Festival Sunday is held on the second Sunday of February every year and closes down all the roads to make way for 5 music stages, performances, workshops and events, from kids’ entertainment to extreme sports demonstrations, dance classes, community activities, buskers and a whole lot more.
This year, St Kilda Festival will run from Saturday 2nd February until Sunday 10th February 2013 (festival Sunday). With so much going on, it’s hard to list them all, so head to the St Kilda Festival website and click on the “What’s on Today?” links on the right hand side.
On Festival Sunday you can expect to see many things going on including:
– Beach Volleyball Victorian Open 2013
– Children’s Fishing Workshop
– Zumba in the Dancezone
– The Soundkraft Records stage in Catani Gardens
– The Latin Quater on Fitzroy St with salsa dance classes
– And of course the music being played over 5 stages with Cat Empire headlining on the Main stage.
